Greece and Rome
The name of "Aurora Borealis" comes from the Greek language. "Aurora" with the meaning of "sunrise" and "Boreas" with the meaning of "wind". The Greeks believed that the Goddess Aurora was a sister to that of
Apollo (the sun) and Artemis (the moon) and that her job was the race across the sky to let her siblings know of the new day's dawn. (The Aurora Zone, 2015)

The Romans also had a very similar tale, claiming Aurora to be the Goddess of Dawn.
